Grow in your faith, gifts and purpose

ON PURPOSE

...while you run the race the Lord has marked out for YOU!

Look, whether you consider yourself athletic, or not, you have entered what the Apostle Paul calls 'a race'. (Phil 3:14, Heb 12:1, Gal 5:7) Perhaps that excites you! That's great.

However, for many of us the thought is actually daunting. Running is hard. Finishing is even harder.

There's the possibility of obstacles, injuries, detours and just plain hard work and endurance involved. We're tired thinking about it.

So, why should we think that being a Christian is any less difficult? In fact, we have an adversary who does not want us to finish our race. He wants us to give up, give in and give way to an easier route to the finish line (as if there is such a thing).

IN FACT, WE MAY FEEL AS IF WE'RE RUNNING OUR SPIRITUAL RACE...

alone
without any real direction or purpose
without any real gifts, abilities or talents
without the right gear
thinking thoughts that sabatogue our race
unable to maintain good habits
carrying a load that is dragging us down
and...perhaps we've never even pictured ourselves crossing the finish line to receive our prize!

"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us." Hebrews 12:1

SO, WHY NOT...

be inspired by the examples and stories of mentors of the faith
learn from the race they ran - their successes and failures
be amazed by a God who uses ordinary people to do extraordinary things
be challenged by the disciplines, habits and goals they valued
be encouraged to grow in your own gifts and abilities;
be motivated to pursue God's purpose for yourself so you can live a life of adventure and faith!
